So please, house rules are to comment only your favorite. Lets just discuss the positives and where the recommended eateries are. The BEST Banh Mi in Hawaii is at BA-LE Sandwich and Bakery Shop
I stumbled across my first Ba-Le Sandwich & Bakery Shop on Fort Street Mall in Honolulu when I was attending Hawaii Pacific University. No freshmen 15 because I literally lived off of these sandwiches packed with vegetables. I know where every single Ba-Le Shop there is on the island of Oahu for that emergency “fix” or if I ran out of Do Chua at home…because everyone knows it’s not a Banh Mi unless it’s packed with Do Chua.
There are 25 Ba-Le shops dotted all over the islands in Hawaii. Everything is baked fresh and never stale, fresh and crisp vegetables, and always made to order.
My favorite Banh Mi is Lemongrass Chicken or Pork packed with lots of vegetables (Gotta LOOOOOVE that Do Chua), hold the mayo, heavy on the Cock sauce….Sriracha Thai Hot Sauce that is =)
Oh man! All this talk of Banh Mi…time to get the Do Chua reserves and bust out some lemongrass with my mortar and pestle.
Aloooooohaaaa ! ! !
My favorite banh mi spot in Honolulu is “Nickie-Cafe”. It’s located on the corner of Kapahulu and Campbell, across the street from Zippy’s. It’s mostly just a take-out place, there are two tables, but the family that runs the place is usually using one of them. They are all super friendly and occasionally throw in free desserts that aren’t even on the menu!
